Melanie MacVoy

Biography

Melanie’s creative talents and love for nature merged when she was invited as a guest artist to the Stoltmann Wilderness near Whistler, BC.  After spending several days hiking and art making with other artists, the Western Canada Wilderness Committee put together an art show and silent auction to raise funds to preserve the old growth forest in this region.  She also volunteered as a trail builder in these pristine areas.

In 2001, Melanie decided to commit to a lifestyle as an outdoor enthusiast and joined the community of Fernie, BC.  Her paintings found renewed inspiration when she gained employment with Island Lake lodge, located in the Cedar Valley Old Growth Reserve.  With the opportunity to study and co-exist alongside these “gentle giants” on a regular basis, Melanie’s enchantment with the old growth cedars was rejuvenated.

“When I take a deep breath of this atmosphere, rich with oxygen and life, my spirits are renewed and I am inspired to be creative.”

While experimenting with fresh approaches to technique and composition, Melanie’s artwork continues to evolve and mature.  She is excited to be a part of the growing arts community of Fernie and the Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada.
