After completing my degree in Fine
Arts and spending several years living in the big city of Vancouver, we
decided that it was time for a change.
The idea of living in a small ski town in the BC interior appealed to
us. We packed our belongings into our
small pick-up truck and headed east.
On our way, we visited Rossland, Nelson and
then Fernie. When we rounded the
corner on highway 3 and the Three Sisters came into view, I had a feeling
this town could be special place. The
large alpine runs on the ski hill and its proximity to town sealed our
decision. That fall we returned from
tree planting to secure accommodation and jobs. Over ten years later, we have made Fernie our permanent home.
As an avid hiker, skier and mountain
biker, I visit mountain tops and wilderness areas on a regular basis. I draw on these experiences as a source
for my paintings. I am particularly intrigued
with old growth cedar trees, and regularly inspired by those surrounding Island Lake Lodge.
“When I take a deep
breath of this atmosphere, rich with oxygen and life, my spirits are renewed
and I am inspired to be creative.”
